Chocolate has been prepared as a drink for nearly all of its history. For example, one vessel found at an Olmec archaeological site on the Gulf Coast of Veracruz, Mexico, dates chocolate's preparation by pre-Olmec peoples as early as 1750 BC.[11] On the Pacific coast of Chiapas, Mexico, a Mokaya archaeological site provides evidence of cacao beverages dating even earlier, to 1900 BC.[12][11] The residues and the kind of vessel in which they were found indicate the initial use of cacao was not simply as a beverage, but the white pulp around the cacao beans was likely used as a source of fermentable sugars for an alcoholic drink.[13]

Hi my name is Laurie yes low carb works I have been on a low carb diet for 8 weeks now started beginning of March my weight was 163 lbs. I now weigh 149 lbs. and I hope to be at 130-135 lbs. by sometime in July then say there. This diet if you follow it right you will be healthy and many pounds lighter its the carbs that we over eat that pack on the pounds. Just check out the low carb sites they will guide you I say at below 50 carbs a day if you eat the right foods meat, oils, veggies and fruit you will not be hungry one other thing eat only when hungry. Good Luck.
For example, POUNDS LOST (Preventing Overweight Using Novel Dietary Strategies), a two-year head-to-head trial comparing different weight loss strategies, found that healthy diets that varied in the proportions of different  macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fats) worked equally well in the long run, and that there was no speed advantage for one diet over another. Hi Silvy, these are quite common concerns when starting out low carb. By increasing your healthy fats you will feel full and satiated for longer, than quick burning carbs. You will also reap all the health benefits from lowering your carbs, eating good quality protein and increasing your fats from healthy sources. It may take a while for your appetite to adapt to be running on more fat than carbs, but it is so incredibly wonderful to finally be off the high/low sugar roller coaster. Good luck with starting out and join us on Facebook for daily tips and subscribe for free recipes when I post them. Libby 🙂

Some people on a keto or low carb diet choose to count total carbs instead of net carbs. This makes it more difficult to fit in more leafy greens and low carb vegetables (which are filled with fiber), so you should only try that if you don’t get results with a net carb method. And, start with reducing sugar alcohols and low carb treats before deciding to do a “total carbs” method.
NOTE: I’m a little nervous about the super sweet blend. I’m imagining that extra stevia has been added to bump up the sweetness. When stevia is added to chocolate, it can increase the bitter flavor compounds in both the chocolate and the stevia. Go slowly and taste as you go. Many THMs have made this recipe and I haven’t heard a complaint yet. Please let me know if you used the GSSS and how it worked. Have a great day. -Kim
Chocolate is generally stored away from other foods, as it can absorb different aromas. Ideally, chocolates are packed or wrapped, and placed in proper storage with the correct humidity and temperature. Additionally, chocolate is frequently stored in a dark place or protected from light by wrapping paper. The glossy shine, snap, aroma, texture, and taste of the chocolate can show the quality and if it was stored well.[75]
Hi Stephanie. First, if the chocolate pudding isn’t SUPER thick tomorrow after it sets, then don’t add the almond milk. Keep it as is. You can use a mini food processor, large food processor or even a blender (this will be a slower process) instead of a coffee grinder. BTW, I use my coffee grinder for spices, nuts, seeds, and coconut all of the time. It has been more than worth it’s price and I’ve had it for at least 15 years. If you don’t have any of these appliances, you can chop finely by hand. The texture will be a little more coarse, but should be fine. Let me know if you have any more questions. If you need my text number, let me know on my Facebook page. Have a great day. -Kim
If you can't have candy with real sugar then these are passable, but not much better, if at all, than say a Hershey sugar-free dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is usually more dense (so not soft, right?) and not as sweet as milk chocolate. These need a firm bite and the overall taste is just ok (but at least there is no chemical after taste as with some sugar free stuff), but they served the purpose. Main gripe is, at least with this seller, you have to order enough candy bars to supply a neighborhood of diabetes patients (like me). So, still searching, but in the meantime munching away at second of 24 bars!
To sweeten "sugar-free" chocolate, most companies use maltitol, a sugar alcohol that is 90% as sweet as sugar ("sugar alcohol" is a somewhat misleading term, as these are neither sugar nor alcohol). This type of sugar replacer (a group that also includes sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, and isomalt) is particularly helpful to people with diabetes, because only a portion of it is digested and absorbed. And the part that is absorbed through the intestinal tract is absorbed slowly, so there's a relatively little rise in blood sugar.

But besides the cost of buying healthier chocolate at stores let’s talk about cravings shall we?! Giving in to chocolate cravings can be the biggest downfall when it comes to practicing a healthy lifestyle and/or trying to lose weight. But not indulging in chocolate just because you might lead a sugar free way of life or think you can’t possibly have it now that you need to lose weight, could put someone into depression! The key factor here is not so much enjoying chocolate, but it’s about the kind you are enjoying .

Yum! What a great round-up! Used these recipes to make my grocery list and will be shopping tomorrow for ingredients! I’ve been on the lookout for something different for dinner. The Cajun zucchini noodles sound delicious! And I’ve been wanting to try the baked spaghetti marinara squash for a while. Excited for some new meals this week 🙂 Thank you!

While the above raw version is fantastic for using in no-bake treats or eating by the handful, if you want a version that you can bake with or that has the option of being oil-free, simply melt a bar of unsweetened chocolate and sweeten to taste with your favorite sweetener of choice. You can add a tsp oil for smoother results, but it’s not required. Pour into a parchment-lined container or candy molds, and freeze until firm. Then break into small pieces or pop out of the molds. This version needs no refrigeration and can be used anywhere you’d use store-bought chocolate chips.

Example 2: Last year, during the middle of Sugar Free January, Bjork and I went on vacation to Hawaii. This time I had decided to take a more flexible approach, so I drank lots of (very sweet) fresh fruit juice, and I had a Coke on the beach, and we split one dessert together. I was aware of what I was eating, and while it made coming back to sugar free eating a little more difficult, it didn’t derail my Sugar Free January experience. It was just a different, more flexible approach.
Fruit is something that should be limited because of the high fructose content. It is natures candy. Yes, fruit has vitamins and healthy nutrients, but you will be getting far more nutrients from your increase veggie intake. Choose nutrient dense, low carb fruits such as berries. Fruit such as pineapple, mango, and especially dried fruits, should be avoided. Also, avoid ALL fruit juices. They have an incredibly high glycaemic index, which will make your insulin spike (and start storing fat again). “If you are overweight, fruit is not your friend”.
When you buy chocolate chips, or even many chocolate bars, they contain additives like soy lecithin to make them shelf stable or hold a shape (like chips that stay chip-shaped when you heat them) or resist “bloom” – that light brown or white-ish powdery look that chocolate gets when it is old or freezer burned or heated and cooled too quickly. You’ll see a teeny bit of it on these chocolates, but it doesn’t affect the taste or enjoyment of the chocolate in the slightest. And it’s a sign of the simple composition of these chocolates.

Sugar and flour – if you give up these 2 things, you will improve your health, weight and nutrition beyond belief. People may say it is restrictive and you are giving up entire food groups, but what you are giving up is food products. It is only because flour and sugar are made into so many products that it appears to be restrictive. Even just 10 years ago, these products weren’t available. Supermarkets looked very different to how they do now.
In general, a low-carb diet focuses on proteins, including meat, poultry, fish and eggs, and some nonstarchy vegetables. A low-carb diet generally excludes or limits most grains, legumes, fruits, breads, sweets, pastas and starchy vegetables, and sometimes nuts and seeds. Some low-carb diet plans allow small amounts of certain fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

As of 2016 it was unclear whether low-carbohydrate dieting had any beneficial effect on cardiovascular health, though such diets can cause high LDL cholesterol levels, which carry a risk of atherosclerosis in the long term.[9] Potential favorable changes in triglyceride and HDL cholesterol values should be weighed against potential unfavorable changes in LDL and total cholesterol values.[31]

Where does nutrition info come from? Nutrition facts are provided as a courtesy, sourced from the USDA Food Database. You can find individual ingredient carb counts we use in the Low Carb & Keto Food List. Carb count excludes sugar alcohols. Net carb count excludes both fiber and sugar alcohols, because these do not affect blood sugar in most people. We try to be accurate, but feel free to make your own calculations.
Pumpkin is a starchy vegetable and carrots do indeed grow below the ground but aren’t as high in sugars as pumpkins. Take a look at this list of carbs in vegetables to see the comparisons. I also eat beetroots which are higher in carbs but they are so packed with nutrition, I allow it. Nothing is out of bounds, depending on your level of carb intake you want to reach.

We are consuming sugar in every meal, cold drinks, natural fruits, packed eating junk material and so on.This unhealthy life style is the major cause of many health related issues. Firstly we don't care about these things and when we fall ill then we leave everything. Why to suffer when you already know about the after effects of eating of excess sugar. Many recipes are given in this book, I have tried few and they are good in taste.

Net carbs is simply total carbs minus fiber and non-digestible sugar alcohols, like erythritol. (This doesn’t apply to high glycemic sugar alcohols, like maltitol.) We don’t have to count fiber and certain sugar alcohols in net carbs, because they either don’t get broken down by our bodies, are not absorbed, or are absorbed but not metabolized. (Read more about sugar alcohols here.)

While the American Diabetes Association notes that many individuals with the disease or its precursor, prediabetes, employ carb counting to control their blood sugar on a regular basis, others have turned to ultra-low-carb diets as a way to manage their symptoms. These diets are highly restrictive and often limit followers to consuming no more than 20 grams (g) of carbs per day, usually with no added sugar, and, depending on the diet, increased protein and fat. Experts say they rarely have patients who ask about following a ketogenic diet or a modified paleo diet long term, but they can be useful for short-term weight loss if done properly.
Dr. Hall and others disagree. They have published studies disputing the notion that carb-restricted diets accelerate metabolism and fat loss. Dr. Hall said that low-carb diets have many benefits: They can help people with Type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels, for example. But he argues that the carb and insulin explanation for obesity is too simplistic and has been “experimentally falsified” in rigorous studies.
I wanted to tell you about some changes I did to this tonight that were amazing. (Don’t get me wrong-the original is amazing too, but I was craving coconut.). I substituted coconut butter for peanut butter, coconut extract for the vanilla, and coconut stevia for the English toffee. It was so amazing with just a little whipped cream on top and a very small dollop of strawberry jam. Live your recipes!

There is evidence that the quality, rather than the quantity, of carbohydrate in a diet is important for health, and that high-fiber slow-digesting carbohydrate-rich foods are healthful while highly-refined and sugary foods are less so.[4] People choosing diet for health conditions should have their diet tailored to their individual requirements.[19] For people with metabolic conditions, in general a diet with approximately 40-50% high-quality carbohydrate is compatible with what is scientifically established to be a healthy diet.[19]

Thank you so much for this recipe! A lot of steps – all necessary – but so worth it. This is the best low carb dessert I’ve had! My parents, sister, and I all loved it. I made one change. I stabilized the whipped cream with gelatin, since it will take us a few days to eat it all, and I was afraid it might get watery. I don’t know if that was necessary or not. And you did say that it freezes well. Again, thanks for all your effort perfecting this wonderful dessert!

Think about it: That tablespoon of maple syrup in your salad dressing, the honey in your Asian-inspired stir-fry sauce, the generous drizzle of ketchup on your burger. Despite many people’s best efforts, that sugar still manages to creep into so many healthy dinner dishes. But meals can be just as tasty and easy to make without the slightest hint of added sweetener. We’ve rounded up 25 added-sugar-free dinners proving just that.
This cake was amazing! I made it for my husband’s birthday party and it was a huge hit! I could not find coconut flower so I used almond flower instead. I subbed Truvia for Swerve (could not find Swerve either, I’m limited with items due to where I live). But even with subbing these ingredients it was so good! I can’t believe it’s even dietary! Thank you so much for sharing this!
